UK based Ghanaian gospel artiste, Sonnie Badu, has been honoured by the Ambassadors College of Ministry in the UK for his contribution to the growth of gospel music in the country.

The artiste, who has many awards to his credit including the 2014 VGMA Gospel artiste of the year, is no stranger to laurels. Just last month, he was nominated as a Prison Ambassador when the Ghana Prisons Service launched the “Efiase” Project.

In a letter addressed by the Prisons Council of Ghana and signed by its Chairman, Stephen Wengam, it said Sonnie’s role as an ambassador is to lead campaign for reforms, advocacy and promote the goodwill of the “Efiase” project which is aimed at improving the living conditions in the various Prison facilities in the country.

In a statement released by his management company in Ghana, Smattys Management and Production, on Tuesday, it said the Baba hit maker is excited about the honours especially as it confirms the recognition of his good works over the years.

“I will do my best to use my position and influence to propagate the gospel and encourage my fans and my friends to donate to change the phase of our prisons. Jesus was a prisoner at a point in his life and prisoners are also God’s creations, so let’s all come on board to support this important project,” the statement added.

Sonnie Badu, who is affectionately referred to as ‘The Worshipper’ launched his debut album, Lost in His glory, in 2007.

The singer launched the annual Sonnie Badu Worship concerts in 2008. Since then, shows have been held in countries like the United States, Germany, Italy, Ireland, England and Canada.

Sonnie has performed with other internationally-recognised gospel acts like Bebe and Cece Winans, Donnie McClurkin, Yolanda Adams, Martha Munizi and Alvin Slaughter.

He is known for songs such as Wonder God, Convenant Keeping God and Adonai.
