The wife of the Vice President, Mrs. Matilda Amissah-Arthur has explained the rationale behind telling off the headmistress of Kukurantumi Presby School when she requested government provided her school with chalk.
She said her aim was to encourage community participation towards the day to day running of the school.

The Second Lady on Wednesday visited the Kukurantumi Presby School to donate five computers but after the presentation, the headmistress requested for other educational supplies including chalk.
But Mrs Amissah-Arthur publicly rebuked the headmistress saying, “I will not give you chalk today, neither will I give it to you tomorrow. You have teachers; you have the PTA, go and buy chalk for the school,”
She has since come under fire, with many teacher groups and individuals calling on her to apologize.
Delivering an address at the 40th anniversary celebrations of the Jack and Jill School in Accra, the wife of the Vice President took the opportunity to apologize.
“The comments I made have been in the media since I made them. When the headmistress asked for chalk, my response was intended to encourage community participation in the school. If I have offended anybody, I take this opportunity to say I am very sorry,” she said.
