The Supreme Court has set July 23, 2015 to hear the suit filed by the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) against Attorney General (AG) and the Judicial Council regarding the proper procedure for appointing justices to the Supreme Court bench.
[contextly_sidebar id=”nYWgdQnFjG0WCMf8D2UQn0H2JmxgFiTy”]The GBA and three others on June 30, 2015 filed a suit at the Supreme Court praying the court to nullify the appointment of Justice Yaw Apau and Gabriel Pwamang as Supreme Court Justices.
The other plaintiffs in the case are Nene Amegatcher, Justin Amenuvor and Frank Beecham and the defendants are the AG and the Judicial Council as first and second defendants respectively.
According to the plaintiffs, the procedure the President used in the appointment of Justices Apau and Pwamang was “unconstitutional,” and should be declared “null, void and of no effect.”
Meanwhile, Citi News sources indicate that the AG has not yet responded to the suit even though the mandatory 14 days to respond has elapsed.
