US President Barack Obama will not visit his ancestral home in Kogelo village when he comes to Kenya next week.
US Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec says Obama’s itinerary will be limited to the capital, Nairobi where he will officiate the opening of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES).
“I can confirm that unfortunately President Barrack Obama will not travel to Kogelo during his visit to Kenya,” Godec said on Thursday night at KTN’s Jeff Koinange Live programme where he made the revelation, dashing hopes for Kogelo residents who expected him to pay them a visit. He did not give reasons.
There have been pleas from the residents for Obama to pay them a visit, including his grandmother Mama Sarah Obama who recently placed the request to the ambassador. He last visited Kogelo in 2006 when he was Illinois Senator.
Obama is expected in the country on Friday next week, the first ever visit by a sitting US President.
