The President, John Mahama has by an Executive Instrument declared Monday, July 20 a public holiday.

A statement signed by the Minister of Interior, Mark Woyongo announced that the decision was taken due to the fact that the Eid-Ul-Fitr celebrations by Muslims falls on Saturday, July 18.

However, because it is a statutory holiday, the President had to declare the next working day a public holiday.

Muslims celebrate Eid-Ul-Fitr, to mark the end of the month-long period of Ramadan fasting, prayers and devotion.

At the beginning of the Ramadan period, President Mahama urged Muslims to pray for peace and prosperity in Ghana as they begin this year’s Ramadan month of fasting.

“The nation expects our Muslim brothers and sisters during this period of fasting to totally submit to Allah and remember our beloved country in their prayers”,he said.
