The Executive Council of the Ghana Independent Broadcasters (GIBA) on Wednesday paid a courtesy call on the newly appointed chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs Charlotte Osei.

The GIBA Executive Council was led by the President, Akwasi Agyeman, the Vice President, Samuel Attah-Mensah and the other Council Members, Stephen Ato Eshun, Andrew Danso-Aninkora, George Fausta Baffoe, as well as the Executive Secretary, Kwasi Owusu Asare.

The EC Chair received the team with Deputy Commissioner in charge of Operations, Alhaji Amadu Sulley and Deputy Commissioner in charge of Finance and Administration, Mrs Georgina Opoku Amankwa.

The President of the Association assured her and her team of the continued support of GIBA to the Electoral Commission in the pursuit of their national mandate and promised an even deeper and stronger collaboration than had existed before, since “we are all stakeholders in this,” the statement added.

According to the GIBA President, there was the need for stronger collaboration for members of the media to understand the key issues in the electoral process beyond that provided by radio commercials. There was also the need to further engage on air persons for them to understand the key issues even as another election year 2016 approached.

Mrs Charlotte Osei stated her appreciation of the show of support and acknowledged that even as Chair of the NCCE she had worked closely with GIBA. She said that engaging deeply with the publics and stakeholders was of tremendous importance to her to ensure a high level of transparency in the operations of the Commission.

The EC Chair welcomed a close engagement with GIBA, saying it was the way to go. She added that it was glad to have GIBA as ‘a strategic partner’ in this endeavour.
