The Ministry for Local Government and Rural Development has hinted that the ministry has laid before government a by-law to make National Sanitation Day compulsory.

[contextly_sidebar id=”sckSuSI77I1bPCWiNTAMOGNw9fY1Rxp5″] He revealed this at the commission of a 12-seater toilet facility on Monday at the St. Maurice R/C JHS in La by fidelity bank as part of its corporate social responsibility to care for the needy in the community.

The Ministry in 2014 introduced the clean up exercise which takes place on the first Saturday of every month.

The exercise was instituted to ensure that communities were kept clean.

According to the first deputy minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, the lack of appreciation for the cleanup exercise by Ghanaians is the reason for the decision.

He commended the residents in the Upper West Region for taking the clean up exercise seriously and for the huge turn out on Saturday.

He added that anyone who refuses to attend the clean up exercise once it is made compulsory would face the full rigors of the law.
