The Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced that about 1,000 youth will be recruited in the art industry under the Youth Employment Agency (YEA).
The youth, which will include 500 porters (Kayayei), will be trained in the industry for two years.
This number is part of the about 100,000 youth the government plans to recruit under the Youth Employment Agency (YEA).
[contextly_sidebar id=”031RRtnJFmo9EZk2oi0vBNkonijKP8IY”]Mr Iddrisu made this known during a working visit to the Dignity DTRT Apparel Limited in Accra, with the newly constituted board of the YEA.
The visit allowed the new board members to get first-hand information, knowledge and in-depth idea about the industry.
He said it was the goal of President John Mahama to make the art industry effective in order for many youth to be trained and establish themselves.
“We seek to equip the youth with employable skills to demystify the thinking of Ghanaian youth of being employed only in the public sector, and so they are going to be trained with National Vocational Training Institute as well,” Mr Iddrisu said.
The Managing Director of Dignity DTRT Apparel Limited, Salma Salifu, welcomed the idea of the collaboration and said it would help to equip more youth.
She said Dignity DTRT Apparel Limited employs 1,000 youth and her outfit is ready to make the youth of the country productive by providing them with the opportunities that would expand their horizon.
Dignity DTRT Apparel Limited is a global apparel industry in the world that offers a huge foreign exchange inflow due to trade liberalization.
