Apple Watch users can send each other doodles and emoji, but those with Android Wear smartwatches haven’t had the same luxury.

According to a new report, this could soon change. Tech website Phandroid is reporting Google may push out an Android Wear update this summer to allow users to send messages, stickers, emoji and doodles in a feature called Together. The update could also allow single-tap gestures on the main watch face.

The report indicates Together will only work if one watch owner is using the same style watch face as another user, which would seem to restrict usability. However, this limitation could potentially be updated if and by the time Google rolls out an update related to the rumored feature.

Android Wear users will also be able to use a quick single tap gesture on their watches to perform various functions, the report said.

Currently, Android Wear devices only support swiping up, down and to the left, in addition to a long press for changing watch faces.

The report details four potential uses for this new gesture including the ability to change the look of the watch face, reveal more information via an app and open up a new activity.

There are watch faces currently available in the Google Play store which allow single tap gestures, but they are using an unofficial method of enabling this functionality. You can also draw emoji and send messages on your Android Wear device, but this would be the first time direct watch to watch communication will be enabled.

While these functions are already available on the Apple Watch, a recent Apple patent filing indicates sharing on its wearable device could extend to smart fist bumps, handshakes, high-fives and mutual bows.
