Ex-Ekiti State Governor to deliver 3rd Atta Mills Memorial lecture

The immediate past Governor of Ekiti State, Nigeria, Dr. Kayode Fayemi is scheduled to deliver the 3rd Atta Mills Memorial Lecture on Tuesday, July 21, 2015.

A statement signed by Koku Anyidoho on behalf of the planning committee announced that the memorial lecture will be on the theme: The Role of Intellectuals in African Politics and Governance.”

The event which is the third in the series is under the auspices of the John Evans Atta Mills Center for Law and Governance (GIMPA), and the John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Library (University of Cape Coast).

The lecture will take place at the GB Auditorium at GIMPA in Accra at 3pm.

The statement however mentioned that on Friday, July 24, 2015, there will be no wreath laying ceremony but the burial grounds of the late President known as the Asomdwee Park will be open to the public on that day.

The first memorial lecture was delivered by Professor Kwamena Ahwoi, former Minister in the Rawlings administration while the second lecture was delivered by Dr Mohammed Ibn Chambas, former Foreign Minister of Ghana and UN Special Representative for West Africa.

This year’s lecture coincides with the (71st post-humous) birthday of late President Atta Mills, who was born on July 21, 1944.

President Atta Mills was President of Ghana from 2009 and 2012 when he died in office.
