The National Hilal Committee (NHC) has announced that this year’s Eid ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Saturday, July 18.

This was stated in a letter sent to the Ministry of Interior and signed by Chairman of the NHC,  Sheikh Mahmoud Gedel.

[contextly_sidebar id=”aiXIcg5GT7b0EnnbXLREPaaJxfaReV7h”]“On the authority of the National Chief Iman and the Ameer and Missionary-in-Charge of the Ahamadiyya Muslim Mission in Ghana, the National Hila Committee (NHC) of Ghana had decided that Eid ul-Fitr 2015 will be celebrated on Saturday 18th July, 2015.”

The NHC further pleaded with the Ministry of Interior to consider making Monday July 20th a public holiday because the celebration falls on a Saturday.

“In accordance with section 2 of the Public Holiday (amendment) Act 1995, it will be appreciated if Monday 20th July is declared as a statutory public holiday,” the letter added.

Eid ul-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, which is a month of fasting and prayer.

During the month of Ramadan, Muslims observe a strict fast and participate in pious activities such as charitable giving and peace-making.

It is a time of intense spiritual renewal for those who observe it.

At the end of Ramadan, Muslims throughout the world observe a joyous three-day celebration called Eid al-Fitr (the Festival of Fast-Breaking).
