A 34-year-old man who allegedly shot at a Chinese expatriate and robbed him of GH¢220,000 at the North Industrial Area in Accra has been arrested by the police.

The suspect, identified as Kofi Agyei alias Kofi Daba, a head porter at the Neoplan Lorry Station at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, and his accomplice, who is on the run, are said to have attacked their victim after he had withdrawn the money from the bank.

They trailed the victim on a motorbike, shot at him before bolting with the money.

The attack

Briefing journalists, the Kaneshie District Police Commander, Superintendent of Police, Mr Fleance Adeka, said the victim withdrew money from the Ridge branch of the GT Bank on June 17, 2015 at about 12:00 noon.

On reaching the North Industrial Area at about 12:30 p.m., he said the victim, who was in the company of his interpreter and his driver, stopped at the Royal Gardens Chinese Restaurant.

Within some few seconds, Mr Adeka said the two suspects emerged on a motorbike at the scene.

He said Agyei, who was the pillion rider and armed with a pistol, got off and shot at the complainant, took the money which was in polythene bags in the car and bolted on the motorbike.

Intelligence

Having sustained serious gunshots injuries, the Police Commander said, the victim was rushed to the Police Hospital where he was given medical care.

Following his admission to the hospital, he said a report was made to the Kaneshie police who later received intelligence that Agyei had gone to his hometown at Traboum in the Ashanti Region with the booty.

Mr Adeka said the suspect was later arrested in his hometown and the items believed to have been bought with the booty, including a 36-inch plasma television set, a home theatre, an air conditioner, a motorbike and a fridge were retrieved from him.
