The National Organizer of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams has mounted a spirited defence over claims that his party and others dished out goodies at the just ended by-election in Talensi.

He said though the NDC never distributed goodies, those who embarked on such an initiative did that to support the Muslim community that was observing the annual Ramadam season.

[contextly_sidebar id=”ZtUyPAHqI1etv9Dh6S7AFiRvA0vMjsbV”]The People’s National Convention (PNC) had accused the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of giving out monies, fertilizers, and other goodies to the people of Talensi with the aim of influencing them.

PNC’s General Secretary, Bernard Mornah speaking on Citi FM’s News analysis programme, The Big Issue, claimed that during one of his campaigns, some of his supporters left because they heard that another political party was distributing goodies.

The NDC and NPP had also accused each other of engaging in such activity but rebutting the claim on The Big Issue, Kofi Adams insisted that “politicians across the country when it gets to the period of Ramadan distribute items to our Muslim brothers and it’s happening across. Whether there is by-election or not.”

He said “I never saw even a granule of fertilizer but indeed if I had gotten some, I would have added it as something that I will give to the people because I saw the people of Talensi as industrious. They are very hardworking people that if I can give them fertilizer that will result in higher yields, that they will harvest more millet and maize, I won’t hesitate to do so.”

This, he said, is “because I am not giving them acid to go and pour unto an opponent, I’m giving them fertilizer to apply to the crops and to get a higher yield so if I had some I would have given them. So whoever did that, whether its NPP, PNC or individuals who did that, me, I salute them for doing so.  I don’t think it would have given anybody electoral advantage.”
