The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Bimbilla has been accused of ignoring intelligence which warned of the shooting incident which claimed eight lives on Wednesday.

The son of a late Bimbilla Overlord, Salifu Abdul Jawad told Eyewitness News host, Richard Sky that he personally called the DCE to tell him of the possible shooting incident by the other faction but he failed to pay heed to his caution.

“I called the DCE in the morning that this is what we have heard that the people are coming to attack the butchers so he should do something so that they can prevent the issue but the DCE did not pay any attention to us.

[contextly_sidebar id=”BHiMLyeNfcsmMDTZlcjCmz5ShJfgu9Uf”]“I told him that those who oppose us are holding guns and they are saying they are going to attack the butchers so he should wake up otherwise Bimbilla will descend into chaos but he told me he cannot discuss the issue with me on phone and he hanged up. I called him more than 10 times after that but he did not pick up,” he narrated.

The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested some eight persons including the Registrar of the Nanumba Traditional Council for their alleged involvement in the sporadic shooting at a local abattoir.

The incident occurred between some butchers and guards of the Regent of Nanumba after the butchers refused to present meat to the Regent as tradition demands.

Salifu Abdul Jawad explained that when his father was alive and the father of the current Regent too was alive, “some of the butchers supported us and some also supported them so those who support them gave them meat and those who support us gave us their meat so we don’t understand why now, they are saying those who support us should give their meat to them.”

Police is bias

Salifu Abdul Jawad also accused the Northern Regional Police Command of arresting the wrong suspects in the case despite knowing the true culprits.

“They [Police] know the very people who went to the butchers and attacked them but they haven’t arrested any of them…”

According to him, in the early hours of Friday, the Police raided their Palace and arrested four of his brothers who were fast asleep but the Police subsequently lied to the media that the suspects were picked up in the evening of Thursday.

“Where the issue happened is far from our Palace but unfortunately, they came to our Palace and arrested four of my brothers; children of the late Naa Salifu. They came in the early hours of 2am so if the Commander is saying that they arrested them in the evening, it is not true,” he fumed.

Salifu Abdul Jawad defended the innocence of his brothers saying, “nobody attacked us and we also did not attack anybody…I don’t believe that it is possible they controlled it.”
