Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Northern Region Chief Sofo Azorka has said his supporters were not violent during the Talensi by-election.

Speaking to Citi News, Azorka explained that the only thing his men did was to prevent the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from sharing money to induce voters during the election.

[contextly_sidebar id=”lbniusargQBAqyN0jRZnzOukH71xK19j”]“On the election day, the NPP went round sharing money to voters and we said we will not allow people to share money like that and because they [NPP] did not get the chance to share money they are angry and want to spoil our name,”he explained.

Azoka added that his men were not armed when they prevented the NPP from “sharing money” as earlier reports suggested.

“The security agencies there searched me thoroughly, but they did not find anything.”

First Vice chairman of the NPP, Freddie Blay and his monitoring team were allegedly attacked by some boys believed to be from Azorka’s camp.

Freddie Blay’s vehicle, according to Citi News’ Upper East regional correspondent Fred Awuni was also vandalized.

Afoko loyalists staged attack

Meanwhile the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho alleged that attacks on Freddie Blay were staged by loyalists of Paul Afoko, National Chairman of the NPP.

“…When I did my checks apparently I found out that it was boys loyal to Paul Afoko who attacked Freddie Blay,” he stated.

“There is this ongoing rift in the NPP and I learnt that the boys are upset that Freddie Blay is one of the reasons why Afoko cannot be the Chairman that he wants to be…,” he further alleged. Koku Anyidoho pointed out that one of the NPP bigwigs Addai Nimoh is also under heavy protection from the Police and the military because “some known NPP boys have threatened to attack him.
