Former President, Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings has called for the arrest and prosecution of persons involved in acts of violence in the Talensi by-election.

The First Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Freddie Blay and his entourage were attacked during the election.

There have also been reports of attacks on members of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the area.

Former President Rawlings, in a statement tasked law enforcement agencies to “act with dispatch to apprehend all those known to have participated in acts of violence, assault, shooting and vandalism” since the matter is of “grave concern.”

He further emphasized the need for a “strong message to be sent to persons intent on institutionalizing violence, especially during election periods.”

“The security agencies should enforce the law without fear or favour and without any political bias whatsoever,” the former President stated.
