A former accountant of the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Health Directorate, who forged the signatures of two persons and stole GH¢46,680.00 belonging to the Ghana Health Service has been sentenced to one day imprisonment and a fine of GH¢840.00.

The Tarkwa Circuit Court ordered Patrick Aiduenu, the 44 year old convict, to sign a bond to be of good behavior for 12 months or in default face six months imprisonment in hard labour.

Aidienu pleaded not guilty to both charges but at the end of the trial, he was found guilty of the offence.

The money belonged to the Tarkwa Division of the Ghana Health Service.

Prosecuting, Police Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah, told the court, presided over by Mr. Justice Alex Obeng Asante, that the complainants were Dr. Jack Galley, the former Municipal Director of Health Service Tarkwa, and Mr. Ebenezer Tetteh, the former acting Municipal Director of Health Service, Tarkwa.

He said from July to December, last year, the convict forged the signatures of the complainants on a cheque and managed to cash various sums of money to the tune of GH¢46,680.00, from the account of the Tarkwa Office the Ghana Health Service.

The Prosecutor said the theft was detected on March 18, and a report was made to the Police by the authorities of the health directorate.

Detective Amponsah said this led to the arrest of the convict and after investigations he was put before court and charged with the offence.
