Ghana defender Harrison Afful has described the entire 2014 Brazil world cup debacle as “unfortunate” but insisted that the team did their best given the circumstances they found themselves in.
The former Esperance man who was a member of Ghana’s squad for the tournament in Brazil recounted the event that led to the team’s early exit saying the playing body gave their all in the competition.
“Brazil was not easy but I think for the money aspects it’s for the big bosses to deal with that but I sincerely think we were ready for the competition,” he said.
Ghana failed to reach the knock out stages of the competition for the first time in history and also saw influential midfielders Sulley Muntari and Kevin Prince Borteng thrown out of camp as the chaos heighten in camp.
A Commission of Inquiry was subsequently established to look into Ghana’s shambolic performance in Brazil.
Speaking in an Exclusive interview with Citi Sports, Harrison Afful said “we are footballers and we did our best and we did what we could but it was unfortunate it did not meet the satisfactions of Ghanaians.”
Touching on his career, the former Esperance man said “obviously the next move should challenge me and meet what I expect of a professional club.”
“Europe is beautiful and I pray I get the opportunity try out something over there but if it does not happen I won’t look back and say I have failed.”
With his future uncertain at the moment, the 25 year old looks to catch up with lost time with family as he ponders the next move in his career.
