The defeated chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jake Obetsebi Lamptey in an exclusive interview with Citi News has indicated his main opponent; Paul Afoko deserves the chairmanship slot.

Mr. Obetsebi Lamptey in congratulating Mr. Afoko said the latter’s hard work during the campaign period has paid off.

“Definitely, I will give him the credit for achieving what he has done,” he said.

He however counselled his successor and the new national executives not to breach the trust the party delegates have put in them but they should “do the things the delegates have hoped for them of doing.”

The former NPP chairman further advised that Mr. Afoko’s win should be seen as a win for the party because “it is the delegates who have gone and chosen this new crop of executives and hopefully, they have chosen wisely as they have done.”

Meanwhile, apolitical science analyst, Dr. Aggrey Darko says the newly elected executives come with diverse background which will enable them rally support from the party in the next general election.

He told Citi News, the new leadership of the NPP “is a very formidable team with serious backgrounds.”

“They come with diverse backgrounds and I think the diversity should help them harmonize certain things,” adding that they should use this diversity “to draw onto their fold, the critical masses that they will need.”

The NPP last Saturday organized their national delegates’ conference where they elected national executives to manage the affairs of the party for the next four years and also to prepare and lead the party into the 2016 general elections.
