The Traditional landlord of Talensi, Baare Tindan Mayalik has rubbished media reports suggesting that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) members who visited him came for spiritual powers ahead of the July 7 by-election.

He described such reports as “false, malicious, unfounded” and advised the general public to disregard such reports.

Last week, an NPP team led by the party’s Talensi parliamentary candidate, Thomas Duanab Wuni and Ashanti Regional Chairman, Antwi Bosiako also known as Chairman Wuntumi paid a courtesy call on the Baare Tindana.

Per the tradition, they were mandated to remove their shirts and fold up their trousers to their keens.

But after photos of their visit surfaced on social media, some media outlets reported that the NPP members’ visited a shrine for fortification in order to win the by-election slated for Tuesday.

But at a press briefing at his palace, Baare Tindan Mayalik rather praised the NPP for respecting his authority unlike the other political parties that are in the constituency to campaign.

He said: “All the parties in the Talensi by-election have never come to visit the Tindana. They visit only the chiefs and do not have regard for the Tindana except the NPP who came to visit the Baare Tindana.”

“The NPP members who visited me did not perform any ritual or ‘chop’ juju as published. They came to visit the Tindana and to introduce their candidate to me and nothing else.”

He maintained that whoever comes before him must take off his or her shirt, adding President Mahama will be no exception should he express interest in visiting him.

“Let me state that even if the President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama or the Paramount Chief of Talensi, Tongo-Raan Kugbil Song Namelteng or any Ghanaian coming to the Tindana must take off his or her shirt and fold up their trousers to the knees before allowed to see the Tindana.”

“This is this tradition our forefathers left for us and we must continue the tradition and anyone who flaws this tradition will become either useless in society or will suddenly die”.
