A convict serving a 25-year prison term at the Ankaful Prisons, has been given another five-year jail sentence with hard labour, by a Cape Coast Circuit Court for forging judicial documents.
Daniel Yeboah, a driver, pleaded not guilty to the charge of forgery, but was found guilty by the court after trial.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Charles Anku, told the court that the complainant was the Central Regional State Attorney, whilst Yeboah was an inmate of the Ankaful Prisons.
[contextly_sidebar id=”vK8gey7UMhCsA0lc6Ad4oOPFG9ecqXZU”]He said on Wednesday, July 7, 2010, Yeboah was convicted and sentenced to 25 years with hard labour for robbery by a Cape Coast Circuit Court.
On Monday October 25, 2010, he filed an appeal against his conviction at the Cape Coast High Court and on Friday February 17, 2012, the then presiding Judge, Justice James Benson gave the green-light for hearing with a reason that Yeboah had a case considering the facts before him.
The Assistant State Attorney, Mr. Vincent Nyinaku, being suspicious of the facts of the case, implored the High Court to give his office a little time to cross-check the records at the Circuit Court Registry, and it was granted.
The suspicion of the State Attorney was confirmed when he found out that the records filed by Yeboah before the High Court were completely different from those of the Circuit Court.
Chief Inspector Anku further told the court that investigations revealed Yeboah collaborated with other persons, now at large, and filed doctored documents entirely different from the circuit court records with the intention to gain his freedom.
He said some statements in the doctored document indicated that the case was reported at the Elmina Police Station and investigated by one sergeant Paul Opoku who when contacted, denied knowledge of that case.
