The General Secretary of Union of Industry, Commerce and Finance workers (UNICOF), John Esiape, has notified the unions’ National Executive Council (NEC) of his intention to step aside for investigations into a US$35,000.00 bribery allegations leveled against him to begin.
Mr. Esiape gave the notice last month June in a letter to the Chairman of the UNICOF.
[contextly_sidebar id=”YsV8EDWMEO0AcvA4L5pQEfHIyW6F98QU”]He noted in the letter that media publications of the bribery and corruption allegations have motivated his interest to step off the scene for the charges against him to be delved into.
However, his intention to step aside cannot manifest without the approval of the NEC which will discuss the request during its next meeting this month of July 2015.
Observers say the impasse between adb workers and the Steve Kpordzih management, may have reason for Mr. Esiape’s move.
It will be recalled that the management and workers of dab have been bickering over the bank’s decision to sell off its headquarters building and opt for rented premises among others.
Another decision of the adb management that the union is opposing is the bank’s intention to off load some of its shares through an Initial Public Offer (IPO).
Aside that, the workers through their mother union, UNICOF, is asking that the adb governing board and the managing director, Mr. Steven Kpordzih be removed from office.
Mr. Esiape, on several occasions, has indicated his readiness to undergo lie-detector test as well as chemical interrogation procedure as part of the investigation.
