Pupils and teachers of Adaklu Goefe Primary School in the Volta Region spent the entire school hours of last week Thursday away from class in a long wait for a Deputy Minister for Education Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
He was expected to handover to contractors, a site for the construction of a Community day SHS for the area.
The short ceremony which was scheduled to start at 9am eventually started about 4pm, keeping pupils, teachers as well as the chiefs and elders of Adaklu stationed for hours.
The chiefs and elders who run out of patience confronted the DCE Mr. Emmanuel Sky Ganaku who had obviously run out of excuses.
Some members of the gathering questioned what they described as “needless delay” and described it as a “waste of productive hours.”
“Just because of some sod cutting ceremony the whole day is wasted. The elders are here with the school kids, worst of all there is no information flow…,” they lamented.
The pupils who were initially cheerful; drumming and singing with high expectations got exhausted along the way and had to sit on the bare floor, while others started playing.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa together with the MP for the Area Kwame Agbodza and the Deputy Volta Regional Minister Francis Ganyaglo eventually arrived at the grounds about 4pm.
The Deputy Education Minister apologised and was remorseful over the incident.
He explained that he was inadvertently caught up in an equally important meeting and promised not to repeat his actions.
Meanwhile one of the community leaders, Mr. Frank Todzro admonished event organizers and politicians to adhere to basic time management principles to mitigate the needless waste of productive hours in the country.
