The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has thrown its weight behind the People’s National Convention’s (PNC) parliamentary candidate for Talensi, Dr. Michael Wombeago.

This forms part of attempts by the leadership of the two parties to contest elections with a united front, after several months of merger talks.

The CPP and the PNC in 2014 began talks to merge the two Nkrumahist parties.

Chairperson of the CPP, Samia Nkrumah speaking at Talensi openly urged the people to vote massively for PNC’s parliamentary candidate, Dr. Wombeago.

“He is somebody who is going to serve you with honesty. He is a follower of Kwame Nkrumah. He is somebody who wants to emulate our first President Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah,” she said.

Samia added that the people of Talensi need someone “who can give with honesty, someone who can serve, someone who has a vision for development for the constituency.”

“Come the 7th of July, I want you to do the right thing; I want you to have the courage and come in your numbers and vote for Dr Wombeago because this time is for us,” she urged.

The Electoral Commission has set July 7, to hold a bye-election in Talensi following the elevation of the Member of Parliament for the area, Robert Mosore to the position of a paramount chief for the Tongo Traditional area.

Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) held their parliamentary primaries last week to elect candidates to represent them.

After the primaries the NPP Thomas Duanab Wuni while the (NDC) selected B.T Baba.
