Citi 97.3 FM will from Sunday June 28 2015 broadcast ‘Our Cities’, a two hour magazine program that seeks to examine urban issues and challenges facing Ghanaian cities, with particular focus in Accra.

Our Cities was previously aired as a segment on the Citi Breakfast Show in partnership with Cities Alliance and the World Bank.

Christopher Opoku, who is the anchor of ‘Our Cities,’  told Citi News that the weekly program will seek to unravel the complex challenges that bedevil Accra, adding that relevant stakeholders would be giving valuable insights into how the challenges can be met to make Accra and other cities in Ghana more habitable.

This program assumes more relevance on the back of the recent floods which resulted in a fire at Kwame Nkrumah Circle, killing over 150 people and untold damage to property on June 3.

Following the tragedy, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly has began demolition works at Old Fadama, a settlement singled out as one of the main reasons for constant flooding in Accra during the months of June and July.

Currently, the AMA is facing challenges resettling displaced Old Fadama residents, with proposed sites not made ready yet.

Floods in Accra every year come with the threat of cholera outbreaks, which claim lives on an annual basis, with congested slums the hardest hit.

‘Our Cities’ airs every Sunday from 2 to 4 pm on Citi 97.3 FM
