Supreme Court nominee, Mr Gabriel Pwamang can now take up his job because an appeal challenging his nomination before the General Legal Council has been withdrawn.

[contextly_sidebar id=”bANkihiPXFXo7rmPj8tMpZhCq6kCRHla”]Mr Pwamang who was a politician and member of the People’s National Convention (PNC) was on May 12, nominated as a justice to Ghana’s apex court, by President John Mahama.

He was appointed together with the Sole Commissioner of the Judgment Debt Commission, Justice Yaw Apau.

Though the two had been vetted by Parliament’s Appointment Committee, the nomination of Pwamang was being challenged by madama Eva Oboshie Sai at the General Legal Council.

The Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Woode subsequently formed a Disciplinary Committee to investigate the matter.

Meanwhile,  a letter from the General Legal Council sent to Parliament, signed by the Disciplinary Committee’s secretary,  Bernard Bentil stated that “I have been directed by the Chairperson of the Disciplinary Committee of the General  Council to inform you that the said complaint against Mr Gabriel Pwamang has been withdrawn by the complainant madam Eva Oboshie.”

“There is therefore no petition pending before the Committee against Mr Gabriel Pwamang.”

According to Citi News‘ Richard Dela Sky, following the withdrawal of the matter at the Legal Council, Gabriel Pwamang and Yaw Apau have been cleared by Parliament for the Supreme Court job.

Earlier, the General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah dismissed suggestions that Gabriel Pwamang will be politically biased in the discharge of his duties after a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Otchere Darko expressed worry over his nomination.
