Attempts by some Northern Members of Parliament to meet chiefs and leaders of Old Fadama was aborted after some youth in the area prevented them from proceeding with the visit.

According to Citi News’ Kojo Agyeman, the tour was truncated because “the Police in their bid to provide security angered some of the youth causing the MPs to postpone the visit to another date.”

The northern MPs, led by Alban Bagbin, were in the area on Tuesday to assess the extent of damage caused by the demolition exercise undertaken by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) on Saturday because most of the residents are migrants from the three regions of the north.

The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Alhaji Collins Duada and his Deputy, Nii Lante Vanderpuye took the MPs around the area.

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly rendered thousands of the resident of Old Fadama homeless after they demolished their structures last Saturday.

Some of the residents subsequently hit the streets to protest against the exercise.

Earlier, Deputy Minority Leader, Dominic Nitiwul urged on the Accra Metropolitan Assembly provide a roadmap for the exercise.
