Hundreds of aged women and men between the ages of 60 and 80 took to the streets of Kumasi in the Ashanti region to protest the worsening economic situation in the country.

They explained that their protest is also to express their displeasure about the worsening power crisis popularly called “Dumsor.”

The protest was dubbed “Mmerewa resu” demo meaning “old women are crying.”

The protestors were clad in red and black and carried placards and banners with different inscriptions.

Citi News correspondent Hawa Iddrisu reported that the demonstrators converged on the Cultural Center and walked through some principal streets of the city.

“They claimed countless promises have been made from sector ministers, government communicators and even the President to fix and bring to an end the ongoing erratic power crisis but it is still on,” Hawa reported.

Meanwhile, some of the demonstrators who spoke to Citi News explained that, the current economic condition in the country is making life unbearable for them saying “we can’t bare our responsibilities.”

They added that they will keep on demonstrating until government addresses their concerns.
