The President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Bice Osei Kuffuor, has declared his intentions to seek re-election.
The decision is informed by his wish to consolidate all the projects he has been working since he took office in 2012.
He explained to Citi FM’s Traffic Avenue host, Jessica Opare Saforo on Tuesday that “there are key things that I am doing that have just been given birth to that you need to guide it to crawl and walk. There are some that are crawling that I feel I must be able to help to make it stand.”
He was uncertain that if a new President will sustain his projects.
The ‘Meso Daye’ hit maker stressed that it is imperative for him to guide the process his administration has began since “I am the vision bearer; if I don’t make these projects self sustainable, then we will have that difficulty of people not being able to manage them well and then they may fall out so I am just trying to consolidation the work that we have done over the past three years.”
So far, Gyedu Blay Ambulley, O.B Demestry, Daasebre Gyamena and Shatta Wale have are posied to contest the MUSIGA presidency and Obuor admitted that wining a second term will not be a walk in the park.
According to him, MUSIGA is “a very, very politically tough organization” but he was confident that based on his last assessment, he together with his executives “have come a long way with our seven-point agenda that I came into office with.”
“I am sure they will share the same passion I share. Together, we’ve been able to do this much and I am hopeful that they may see the need for continuity so I may be happy enough to get their support,” he told Jessica.
“A lot of the things that drew me into that office, I can look back and say that they’ve been achieved so I feel energized,” he added.
The MUSIGA President admitted that it’s been “tough” three years as president of musicians in Ghana saying, “it’s been very, very difficult along the line. There are low moments, there are high moments but all in all, it’s been worth the try.”
“…every once in a while, you will few extremists being too hard but that notwithstanding, I think the majority of the musicians buy into my vision and once you have that, it’s a bit easier.”
