The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has warned squatters whose structures on water ways near the Korle Lagoon, were demolished not to rebuild them.

Sam Ayeh-Dartey, the AMA Coordinating Director, who issued the warning in a statement issued on Tuesday, said it is an offence under the rules and regulations of the Assembly for people to construct or reconstruct structures without approval.

He noted that many people in the metropolis are not complying with the bye-laws and cautioned that any individual or group of persons who violate them would be arrested and prosecuted.

He said owners of such structures would also be surcharged for the cost of removal.

The Coordinating Director said the measures have become necessary to rid Accra of filth and unauthorized structures to give the metropolis the needed facelift.
