The President of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari has announced that the state coffers is “virtually empty.”

President Buhari made this known when he met with state governors over the lack of money to pay government workers their salaries.

[contextly_sidebar id=”y9obODMlSjNOPPaMZlPKLWByOaNiFe8O”]He has since vowed to recover the billions of dollars which he says has been stolen from the state under previous governments.

President Buhari is quoted as saying, “the days of impunity and lack of accountability are over. The next three months may be hard, but billions of dollars can be recovered, and we will do our best.”

He early on briefed the press and indicated that it was a “disgrace” that government workers had not been paid for months.

Buhari on the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) defected the incumbent President, Goodluck Jonathan in the country keenly contested  March 2015 elections.

His victory ended the about 16 years rule of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)
