About 15,000 teachers may not receive their salaries for the month of June because they do not have SSNIT numbers on their payslips.

The Coalition of Concerned Teachers – Ghana (CCT – GH) disclosed this in a statement signed by its General Secretary, Raymond Boakye Darkwa.

[contextly_sidebar id=”YtrM3XWNVCcVAtn8DY21qWESDRZMm9oY”]They claim the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) is bent on withholding the salaries despite calls on them to abort it.

“… This will be very pathetic, considering the current hash economic climate.”

“The leadership of Coalition of Concerned Teachers – Ghana (CCT – GH) is battling hard to have this policy halted or possibly suspended to enable teachers, particularly those in the hinterlands, get their SSNIT numbers through the Controller system.”

CCT Upper West Chapter has threatened to sue the CAGD and the Ministry of Finance if the policy is carried out to the disadvantage of even a single CCT member.

The national executives of CCT  said they met with the CAGD to discuss possible ways of putting on hold the policy since they claim it has far reaching effect on the plight of the affected employees.

“The fallout from that intercourse points to the fact that Controller is bent on deleting some people from the payroll this month through fair or foul means. Indeed, this is elimination by rough tactics,” CCT added.

Meanwhile, the CCT said they have “obtained the list of the affected teachers and has further strike an agreement with CAGD that it will furnish CAGD with the SSNIT numbers of their affected members by 3pm June 23.”

Government has been battling to rid the supposed bloated payroll system of “ghost names” who continue to draw salaries.

To this vain, the CAGD in 2014 suspended salaries of employees without bank accounts from the government payroll system in three regions and further extended the exercise nationwide.
