A driver, Kojo Kegbe was on Monday sentenced to 20 years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court for robbing a Toyota Corolla Taxi, belonging to one Kwadzo Yeboah.

Kojo pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced by the court accordingly.

The facts of the case as presented by Deputy Superintendent of Police, (DSP) Martin Acheampong are that the complainant is a Taxi Driver resident at Ashaley-Botwe, while the convict is a driver and a herbalist resident at Teacher-Mantey in the Eastern Region.

[contextly_sidebar id=”PlRYSHFoHKr6ofic6JspxYyB6cQ5dEWF”]He said on May 5, the complainant was driving a Toyota Corolla Taxi, and on reaching Achimota overhead area, the convict and his accomplice now at large hired his service to convey them to Pokuase.

The prosecution said on arrival at Pokuase Agric Junction, Kojo and his accomplice armed with a locally manufactured pistol attacked the complainant and threatened to kill him if he fails to surrender the vehicle to them.

He told the court that at the junction, the complainant attempted to disobey the order but he was beaten by the two and pulled out of the vehicle.

DSP Acheampong said the complainant raised the alarm but the two drove the taxi away.

On June 8, upon reliable information, the convict was arrested at his hideout in a village near Teacher-Mantey.

Kojo in his caution statement admitted the offence of robbing the vehicle and added that after snatching the taxi from the complainant at gun point, his accomplice sent it to Kumasi, where it was sprayed into blue-black colour.

He said the convict said the vehicle was brought back to him, and he used it for some few weeks but later sent it back to Kumasi and handed it over to a third party to sell.

The convict later led the police to the house of his accomplice but he was not found.
