A member of Kofi Jumah’s campaign team, Kess King has defended his boss’s petition seeking cancellation of the parliamentary primaries held in the Asokwa Constituency.
Maxwell Kofi Jumah, a former Member of Parliament, lost to incumbent MP, Patricia Appiah Agyei in the primaries about a week ago.
[contextly_sidebar id=”y36kSNb2JiWcadNZEQKAlFwkz8Gg5mNj”]Kofi Jumah who has petitioned the leadership of the New Patriotic Party contends that an old voter’s album was used to conduct the primaries in the area and hence was a “complete sham.”
He has further warned the party leadership to nullify the results or face mass defection to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Throwing more light on the petition, Kess King said his boss’ decision was based on a directive by the party’s General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong for aggrieved candidates to petition NPP’s secretariat for redress.
Kess King explained that “the issues that culminated in our call are plenty. It ranges from the accreditation for the candidates, their agents and also the accreditation for the delegates. Another issue also has to do with the album that the EC used on that day.”
He argued that Maxwell Kofi Jumah and his agents were not given accreditation “so it was only the candidates who even got access to the premises and it was even after so much hassle with the Police.”
“Again delegates who were supposed to be accredited, most of them did not get accreditation and at the end of the day, people who were not delegates got accreditation to vote,” he lamented
With regards to the voters album, Kess King noted that the album used had some marking in front of some of the delegates so “in effect people came to vote and they were told they had voted already.”
He further assured that they will exhaust all the internal procedures to have their grievances resolved.
Meanwhile, Kofi Jumah who reportedly vandalized some election materials during the primaries is facing trial in court.
