The Upper West Regional Branch of the Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT) is threatening to sue the Ministry of Finance
and the Controller and Accountant General’s Department if they go ahead to freeze salaries of public sector workers.
[contextly_sidebar id=”oq1eEMuA3PXgm2qvS6N20NLd4Eaqx4J2″]The Controller and Accountant General’s Department has announced that Public Service workers, particularly teachers, whose SSNIT numbers do not appear on their pay-slip will not be paid.
According to the Department, the exercise is part of measures to delete ghost names on government’s payroll.
However, the Coalition insists the department’s action is inappropriate since there are no ghost names on government’s payroll.
“We are coming out strongly with evidence and facts. Now those people are never ghost names or they are never ghosts. They are on active service and if the Minister fails to reverse the decision, the Coalition of Concerned Teachers will come out strongly and take action,” the Upper West Regional Chairman of the CCT, Alhassan Abdulai Salifu said.
Salifu asked the Ministry of Finance to reverse the decision or face the Coalition’s wrath saying, “tomorrow we want to hear from the Ministry of Finance that they have reversed their decision because teachers or hardworking teachers in the country cannot afford to lose their salaries just because somebody somewhere has not done his work well.”
“We are not renewing our legal action against the Minister of Finance because we have enough information that there is no need for any worker in this country at the moment to provide their SSNIT number for them because all these were prerequisite requirement for them to use biometric registration,” he added.
