Residents of Agbogboloshie in Accra have hit the streets to protest the demolishing exercise which took place on Saturday.
The residents who are mostly migrants from the northern part of the country say they have been betrayed by the government.
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) demolished over 1,000 structures along the banks of the Odaw River and the Korle Lagoon.
The exercise which was carried out under heavy security presence rendered thousands of the slum dwellers homeless, while scrap metals and make shift shops have also been destroyed.
Citi News’ Franklin Badu Jnr who was at the scene reported that there is “total chaos and total pandemonium. The youth of the area have blocked the road around the Sikkens area not far from the onion market.”
He said some Police officers who have been deployed to the area are unable to control the angry crowd.
“Thousands of people here are very angry and they say they are going to vote against the President because they have been betrayed,” Badu added.
