Some New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates in the Klottey Korle constituency in the Greater Accra Region say they will resist any attempt to disqualify Nii Noi Nortey; one of the three aspirants contesting the party’s Parliamentary primaries in the constituency.

The delegates who have petitioned the party leadership say they will not accept any decision that seeks to nullify the candidature of Nii Noi Nortey.

[contextly_sidebar id=”gPIJaMAt8icNguE3kZH3PdmOblZTtTkI”]Nii Nortey was accused of presenting a fake University of Ghana certificate to the party’s vetting Committee.

One Joshua Rockson, reportedly petitioned the Commissioner of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) challenging the authenticity of the certificate Nii Nortey allegedly earned from the University of Ghana.

Nii Nortey did not categorically deny the accusations but told Citi News in he was convinced the party’s Appeal’s Committee will fairly deal with the matter.

Addressing a news conference in Accra, spokesperson for the delegates, Daniel Opoku Amponsah said the delegates who number about 200 will not vote for any candidate aside Nii Noi Nortey

He accused the supporters of Philip Addison of scheming to get their candidate disqualified.

He narrated that a petition was filed against Nii Noi Nortey for his disqualification but he was cleared by the constituency vetting committee “but Addison’s team did not agree so they forwarded it to the regional.”

“The regional office cleared him and just recently, the national appeal’s committee also cleared him so why the need for another disqualification?” he asked.

An angry Mr. Amponsah said the insistence of the supporters of Addison to get Nortey disqualified is the reason why the delegates of Korle Klottey constituency are angry.

“People are contesting for the Parliamentary seat of the ticket of the NPP. We have Nii Noi Nortey being the candidate number one, Nii Adjei Tawiah, candidate number two and Philip Addison so why is it that all hands are being pointed at Nii Noi Nortey to be disqualified?” he fumed.

“We the delegates are saying that all three people should be allowed to contest,’ he warned.
