The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has dismissed calls for the dissolution of the its board.

[contextly_sidebar id=”jIBROTNkrCJwU80Di5tMoJZwCCfUuWj4″]The call follows pressure from the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) on the WAEC’s board to be dissolved, over the leakage of five of the examination papers and the subsequent cancellation.

WAEC had explained that their decision to cancel the said papers is in the best interest of the candidates.

They added that, this will also make the institution’s certificate more credible.

Speaking to Citi News, the Deputy Director in charge of Public Affairs at WAEC, Agnes Teye Cudjoe asked the public to be circumspect in their criticism.

“It is unfortunate, investigations are going on and you can’t just say that heads should roll because of what has happened. When things happen like that, people become emotional and lash out at institutions and people who work in there but let’s wait for the outcome of those investigations.”

She also announced that WAEC will bear the extra cost of organizing the examination for the cancelled papers saying “we are not going to ask parents to pay anything, WAEC is going to fully foot the bill for this.”

She further “urged candidates to remain calm and put their thoughts together anda bit more s and prepare themselves for the re-sit of the papers.”
