The Northern Regional Police Command has indicated it is investigating and making efforts to arrest the unknown gunmen who shot and injured nine New Patriotic Party (NPP) members in Tamale.

“We have picked some bits and pieces of information but we don’t want to share that information yet so I am telling you that we will definitely get to the bottom of this particular matter,” said the Public Relations Officer of the Regional Police Command, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh.

Unknown gunmen in an unregistered taxi cab were reported to have shot into a crowd of NPP youth at Oscar’s base where they organized a night jam in commemoration of the NPP’s national delegates conference slated for Saturday, April 12.

The national chairman of the party, Jake Obestebi Lamptey says he suspects foul play and has since appealed to the Police to arrest the culprits to bring a sense of security among the delegates.

ASP Tetteh told Eyewitness News, the Police will provide adequate security for both residents and the members of the NPP who are in Tamale for their national delegates’ conference despite the shooting incident which occurred on Thursday.

He gave the assurance that “the Police is here to protect and provide security for each and everyone…we will ensure that the conference ends successfully.”

He narrated that the shooting incident occurred “in a very swift and in a very fast manner…that will not mean that our security arrangements in place have failed; no; not at all.”

According to the Police PRO, security personnel will be deployed all over the Metropolis to maintain peace, law and order.

NPP delegates are in Tamale for their national delegates’ conference aimed at electing new national executives as stipulated in their constitution.
