Vodafone Ghana Foundation has launched the second edition of its three-year Vodafone Scholarship Scheme to offer financial support to brilliant but financially challenged females, studying Science and Maths at the Senior High School (SHS) level.
[contextly_sidebar id=”PfJ4RiaZ1wiwoWGb5PyFwr6RdInwLHAn”]The pioneering initiative which was introduced to increase the pool of females in the science, technology and engineering industry, is currently sponsoring the education of 100 more brilliant female SHS students and 10 females studying Science Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM) related courses at the University of Education, yearly.
Addressing the press at the launch ceremony held at the British Council in Accra, Director of Human Resources (HR) at Vodafone Ghana said:
“We are excited that as a result of this initiative, 220 brilliant females from financially challenged homes and deprived communities across the country are assured of their future in STEM related courses in order to decrease the high attrition rate of women in this area”.
The HR Director added that Vodafone Foundation is working hand-in-hand with the British Council to identify and award brilliant but financially challenged females nationwide who have gained admission to the secondary and tertiary levels but face financial difficulties.
Vodafone Ghana currently has various initiatives that support females studying STEM courses at different levels of education in the country.
Their support includes the Engineering Students Sponsorship programme with KNUST and GTUC where girls excelling in engineering are sponsored for their final year in the university.
