The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has assured commuters it will force its members to revert from the unapproved fares they are charging to the original fares.

The transport operators on Thursday agreed at a meeting not to increase fares despite the recent fuel price increases.

The operators say there is no significant increases in the prices of other inputs, hence their decision.

The Greater Accra Chairman of the GPRTU, Robert Sabbah told Citi News, the decision was arrived at on Thursday night therefore, “most of them hadn’t gotten the information.”

Regarding public transport operators who do not operate under the union, Mr. Sabbah said his outfit will do its possible best to get the information to them adding that the GPRTU will “draw attention to some of our members but we are yet to complete that assignment.”

He assured the general public the directives will be applied to the latter.

Meanwhile, drivers and passengers continue to fight in commercial vehicles as a result of the increment.
