Nana Addo eulogizes late Tolon Naa Tali

The 2012 Presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo has encouraged residents of Tolon in the northern region to live by the enviable lifestyle of the late Tolon Naa Yakubu Tali.

He made the call in Tolon on the occassion of the memorial service of the late Tolon Naa Yakubu Tali who was en-skinned as the Tolon Naa in 1916 and died in 1986.

Nana addo described the late Tolon Naa Yakubu Tali as a beacon of the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition whose inspiration continues to reign supreme.

He also remembered the late Tolon chief for being the first northerner to gain admission into the Achimota school.

Nana Addo said the role played by the late Tolon Naa Yakubu Tali, S.D Dombo and J.A Braimah in the formation of the NPP as a political party cannot be underestimated for which reason they are worth celebrating.

The late Tolon Naa Yakubu Tali whose life is being celebrated joined forces with S.D Dombo and J.A Braimah and formed then Northern Peoples Party (NPP).

He was enskinned as Tolon Naa in 1916 and died in 1986.

The late Tolon Naa Yakubu Tali won both the 1954 and 1956 Parliamentary elections as an independent candidate and on the ticket of the Northern Peoples Party respectively.

He represented the Dagomba South constituency in Parliament and his political life began in 1948 when he was elected a representative of the Western Dagomba District Council to the Northern Territories Council.

The late Tolon Naa Yakubu Tali was also Assistant Secretary to the Dagomba State Council from 1948 to 1952.
