The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has begun inspecting filling stations in the Western Region.
A team of EPA officials were seen moving from one fuel station to the other in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis on Monday.
The inspection according to officials of the EPA forms part of their regular environmental and safety enforcement exercises.
As part of the inspection fuel station operators were made to produce their operating permits for verification.
They were also made to open the underground storage tanks for inspection.
The inspection was also to remind the operators of their duty to ensure public safety.
At the Market Circle branch of Total, some safety precautions were overlooked.
For instance, the lid of the underground storage tanks were left loose, a similar situation caused the June 3 disaster at Kwame Nkrumah Circle.
The location of the station itself was also thought to have been on a water table.
The operators however admitted overlooking at some safety precautions.
Over 15 new filling stations have been built in the twin city since 2014.
