The National Labour Commission (NLC) has told Citi Business News it has not received any notice from the Union of Industry, Commerce and Finance Workers (UNICOF) over a sit down protest.

[contextly_sidebar id=”6mbYBDBvUmmygOzOKsHw34YZwMQ7Q9sa”]According to Acting Executive Director of the commission Dr. Bernice Wellbeck as at last Friday 12th June,2015, her office had not cited any communication from UNICOF which makes it difficult for the commission to take any action.

UNICOF last week Friday served notice that all its 77 member unions will embark on the strike to drum home their opposition over what they consider to be unfair labour practices by management of various member institutions.

UNICOF insists it is unfair that when allegations of misconduct are leveled against those in management positions unlike the workers, they are not asked to step aside.

But the Acting Executive Director of the National Labour Commission Dr. Bernice Wellbeck told Citi Business News lack of formal communication from UNICOF makes it difficult to begin the process to avert industrial action.

Meanwhile UNICOF says they suspect foul play from the National Labour Commission.

According to UNICOF they delivered their notice for strike on Friday 12th June,2015 to the commission.

Speaking to Citi Business News General Secretary of UNICOF John Esiape said the union has served notice and will not hesitate to activate the strike after the seven days notice period if nothing is done.
