The leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta region is questioning the reasoning behind the incentives and compensation packages that were promised participants in the botched Ebola Vaccine Trial.

[contextly_sidebar id=”z3yE5Qm5OEDq5UqZnAKyybAA0TnNZhnj”]The Volta regional NDC argue that their investigations revealed that the companies behind the planned trial test set aside 200 million dollars for the experiments but some technocrats in Ghana offered  what they describe as cheap mobile phones and a paltry sum of 200 cedis to participants.

“We want to know, because we have conflicting information, our set up indicates that on the WHO website, each individual was supposed to be given be given about 2,847 pounds. Why are they offering these students 200 cedis and a mobile phone? Why did they decide to hide the programme until it was blown by an individual?”the Volta regional Secretary of the NDC, Mustapha Gbande told Citi News.

The party also asked the Food and Drugs Authority ( FDA) and all stakeholders to be transparent and clear on the matter.

“We are calling on the Authority of the Foods and Drug Board. Why are they hiding the name s of the pharmaceutical company involved. Why are they failing to give information to the public… We are calling on authorities of the Foods and Drugs Board to come and clear the air,” he said.

The trail was initially scheduled to take off in the Volta Region but the Ministry of Health was compelled to suspend it after several calls.
