A 55-year old Japanese national has committed suicide at the Ridge Hospital in Accra.

Suzuki Naota was on admission at the VIP ward of the hospital after being referred from the Sakumono Community hospital on June 7, 2015.

He was admitted after undergoing a surgical operation.

A source at the hospital told Citi News that Suzuki Naota hanged himself on an oxygen pipeline in the ward at about 6am on Friday.

He was found hanging on the pipeline, after security personnel at the ward forcibly broke into the ward.

It however unclear why he committed the suicide but some believed he might have taken the decision after being duped.

However, the source close to the hospital authorities could not confirm or deny the allegation.

Personnel from the Homicide Unit of the Ghana Police Service had taken his body to the Police Hospital for autopsy.

They declined to speak to Citi News citing a possible interference of ongoing investigation into the incident.
