The Union of Industry, Commerce and Finance
Workers (UNICOF) has served notice of a sit down strike to protest what they consider to be unfair labour practices against members.
According to the labour laws, the strike will come off in two weeks if government fails to implement their demands.
The Union has however indicated that it will rescind its decision to protest if government meets their demands within the stipulated time.
[contextly_sidebar id=”5KrxQIr1Qvz7gAX3X08IvmMC0TJv4y4b”]The strike, according to UNICOF is because they continue to experience some interference and intimidation in their quest to expose wrong doing in the ongoing ADB saga.
In a letter addressed to the Labour Commission and copied to the bank of Ghana, ministries of Finance and employment and labour relations, the union insists it is unfair that when allegations of misconduct are leveled against those in management positions unlike the workers, they are not asked to step aside.
“Workers are enjoined expose wrong doing/malfeasance to assure a sustainable business environment.Workers who are alleged to have misconducted themselves are interdicted until such cases was determined, we believe that the same principle must be applied to all,”it indicated
The letter signed by the General Secretary of UNICOF John Esiape, maintains its entire 77 member unions will embark on the strike to also press home their opposition to the decision to use security agencies to threaten them.
