The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) leader and 2016 Presidential candidate, Nana Akufo Ado says the best means to sanctify the soul of the party’s late Upper East Regional Chairman, Adam Mahama is to win the 2016 general elections.
Addressing a large gathering at the Bolgatanga Jubilee Park on the occasion of the final funeral rites (Adua) of the late Adam Mahama, Nana described the deceased as a young and dynamic man who sacrificed his life for the party’s victory.
He thereby cautioned party members and sympathizers against retaliation over the late Adams’ death.
“The NPP will capture power in 2016 really to improve the lives of the people of Ghana: it is up to us to make sure that Adams did not die in vain.”
“We have to rededicate ourselves to the struggle ahead: there is a struggle to redeem our country and return it to the path of prosperity and progress: when we have done this we will put a smile on the faces of all the poor and needy people that Adams took care of,” he underscored.
Nana Akufo bemoaned, “Many of us cannot come to terms with the fact that the life of such a dynamic and charismatic young man has been cut short: I understand this anger, I share the pain but I urge self restraint and I plead with you that in all we do we treat the name of Adams with dignity and resolute.”
He reiterated his call on the police to unravel the mystery surrounding the late Chairman Adam’s death and prosecute the perpetrators.
“Let us wait patiently for the police to do their work: so far it appears they are doing a good job and we expect them to continue to do so and not to succumb to political pressure of any sort.”
NPP’s support to Adam’s family
Nana Akufo Ado confirmed the party’s intention to set up a fund beginning with GHC100, 000.00 as seed capital for the upkeep of the deceased family.
He said other NPP loyalists contributed GHC43, 000.00 to support the late Upper East NPP Regional Chairman’s family.
Additionally, NPP Regional Chairmen made available GHC90, 000.00 cedis for the establishment of the late Adam Mahama’s Foundation.
Afoko and Kwabena’s absence
The under-fire NPP national Chairman Paul Afoko and the party’s General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong were conspicuously missing at the event which attracted people from all walks of life.
The party’s first vice national Chair, Hon. Freddie Blay, national youth Organizer Sammy Awuku, National Organizer John Boadu, the Nasara national Coordinator, Abdulai Kamaldeen and the national Communications Director, Hon. Nana Akomea among other party officers graced the occasion.
Nana Ado’s entourage included his thrice trusted running mate, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, Mr. C.K Tedem, Messrs Alan John Kwadwo Kyeremanteng, Hon. Yaw Osarfo Maafo, Hon. Sheikh I.C Quaye, Nii Adjiri Blankson, Alhaji Aminu Zohi-Limam, Alhaji Rashid Bawa, Hajia Alima Mahama, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo Ado and Hajia Samira Bawumia.

Political cohesion
There were delegations from the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Peoples National Convention (PNC), the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) and the rest.
The Upper East Regional Minister, James Zuugah Tiigah led the NDC delegation and he was accompanied by Interior Minister, Mark Owen Woyongo, Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna and the NDC Northern Regional Chairman, Chief Awudu Sofo Azorka.
The PNC General Secretary, Bernard Mornah led the party’s delegation whilst the PPP’s national Chairman, Nii Allotey Brew Hammond did same for his party.
All of them in their solidarity messages emphasized the need to deepen political tolerance ahead of the 2016 general elections.
Security arrangement
Nothing untoward happened there because security arrangement was excellent.
A joint police and military team supported by the NPP’s private security known as the invisible forces ensured maximum security.
The NPP members, sympathizers and family members of the late Adam Mahama wore T’Shirts with the deceased portrait in front with inscription at the back which read, “Our Hero Rest in Peace: Your Vision Lives on.”
