The Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed that all schools within Greater Accra must re-open today [Monday] after last week’s floods.

A statement signed by the Ag. Director General of GES, Jacob Kor said: “…we wish to announce the return to normalcy and that all schools should be re-opened from tomorrow, Monday the 8th of June 2015.”

[contextly_sidebar id=”nH81YS9Vp4RIABuRbsJr00zj6Hhlocrx”]After last Wednesday’s life-threatening floods in Accra, the Education Minister directed all schools must be closed till further notice.

The Ministry said the students can only return to the classroom when there is a change in the weather.

Hours of rain last Wednesday caused severe flooding in the capital; a situation which caused a fire outbreak at a Goil Fuel station at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in which over 90 people lost their lives.

Earlier in the week, there had been reports of the drowning of about two school children.

The GES statement requested full compliance and further asked that heads of institutions must “remain on the alert for any further communication as and when we are advised by the Meteorological Department and NADMO.”
