Torrential rainfall on Tuesday left many parts of Accra flooded and messy.

The flood waters have rendered many roads almost impassable and also caused massive vehicular traffic.

Some parts of the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Kaneshie First Light and the Central Business District were completely submerged.

This is not  the first time Accra has flooded after a few hours of heavy rain. It is believed that the situation has been aggravated by the choked drains in the city as well as the buildings on waterways.

In January 2013, President Mahama cut the sod for a five-year $663,299,496 Accra Sanitary Sewer and Stormwater Drainage Alleviation Project.

The project was aimed at upgrading the sewerage and drainage infrastructure within the Odaw Basin covering, de-silting, dredging, construction of new siltation ponds and the removal of refuse from and complete reconstruction of priority drains and restoration of the Korle Lagoon.
